What Distinguishes the Strength and the Effect of a Lewis Acid: Analysis of the Gutmann-Beckett Method

Philipp Erdmann et al.

Summary: The global Lewis acidity and effective Lewis acidity often have poor correlation, mainly due to the influence of deformation energy. Through theoretical and experimental analysis, the relationship between global Lewis acidity and effective Lewis acidity is identified.

A Heterogeneous Palladium Catalyst for the Polymerization of Olefins Prepared by Halide Abstraction Using Surface R3Si+ Species

Jiaxin Gao et al.

Summary: The silylium-like surface species [(Pr3Si)-Pr-i]-[(O-F)(3)Al-OSi )] activates (N boolean AND N)Pd(CH3)Cl by chloride ion abstraction to form [(N boolean AND N)Pd-CH3][((RO)-O-F)(3)Al-OSi )]. This activation shows similar reactivity patterns as (N boolean AND N)Pd(CH3)Cl activated with Na[B(Ar-F)(4)]. In addition, this activated species can catalyze the polymerization of ethylene and copolymerize with methyl acrylate.

Perfluorinated Dialkoxysilanediols Resisting Self-Condensation

Felix Feige et al.

Summary: The reaction between sodium salts of perfluorinated tertiary alcohols and SiCl4 resulted in the formation of di-substituted dichlorosilanes and corresponding silanediols, which are stable towards self-condensation at ambient conditions. Similar compounds, disiloxanes, were also prepared in a similar manner.
