Photochemical Radical C-H Halogenation of Benzyl N-Methyliminodiacetyl (MIDA) Boronates: Synthesis of α-Functionalized Alkyl Boronates

Ling Yang et al.

Summary: A new method was proposed utilizing benzyl N-methyliminodiacetyl (MIDA) boronates for photochemical radical C-H halogenation, enabling successful fluorination, chlorination, and bromination reactions. The resulting brominated product could be further transformed into a variety of organic compounds, including those difficult to form with alpha-halo sp(2)-B boronate esters, by reaction with different nucleophiles. An activation effect of the B(MIDA) moiety was discovered.

Tetracoordinate Boron Intermediates Enable Unconventional Transformations

Kai Yang et al.

Summary: Organoboron compounds are versatile reagents for building carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds through tetracoordinate boron intermediates. Recent advances in improving tetracoordinate boron intermediates have been made, but challenges such as limited activation modes and difficulties in stereoselective control remain. New strategies involve constructing C-B bonds, C-C bonds, and designing and applying chiral tetracoordinate boron complexes.

Aza-Matteson Reactions via Controlled Mono- and Double-Methylene Insertions into Nitrogen-Boron Bonds

Qiqiang Xie et al.

Summary: Boron-homologation reactions offer an efficient and programmable method for the synthesis of alkylboronates, providing valuable and versatile synthetic intermediates. By implementing aza-Matteson reactions, selective mono- and double-methylene insertions can be achieved, allowing access to various alpha- and beta-boron-substituted tertiary amines. Additionally, derivatization of complex amine-containing bioactive molecules, diverse functionalization of boronate products, and sequential insertions of different carbenoids have all been successfully demonstrated.

Copper-catalysed amination of alkyl iodides enabled by halogen-atom transfer

Bartosz Gorski et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates an alternative amination strategy using alkyl iodides as radical precursors and copper catalysis to assemble sp3 C-N bonds at room temperature. This method provides S(N)2-like programmability and has been shown to be useful in the late-stage functionalization of pharmaceuticals for the preparation of valuable N-alkylated drug analogues.
