One-Shot Synthesis of Expanded Heterohelicene Exhibiting Narrowband Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence

Susumu Oda et al.

Summary: An expanded heterohelicene consisting of three BN2-embedded [4]helicene subunits has been successfully synthesized through one-shot triple borylation, resulting in a narrowband sky-blue thermally activated delayed fluorescence. The resonance effect of three boron and six nitrogen atoms minimized the singlet-triplet energy gap, enabling rapid reverse intersystem crossing with a high rate constant. The organic light-emitting diode device, used as an emitter, displayed a narrowband emission with a high external quantum efficiency.

The role of host-guest interactions in organic emitters employing MR-TADF

Xiugang Wu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that effective multiple-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence requires suitable host-guest interactions to boost TADF. Additionally, this boosted-TADF mechanism can be applied to any fluorescence dye with a thermally accessible energy gap, enabling the development of high-performance organic light-emitting diodes.

Vibrational Damping Reveals Vibronic Coupling in Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Materials

Matthias Hempe et al.

Summary: In this study, D-A molecules consisting of spiro[acridan-9,9'-fluorene] as the donor and 2-phenylenepyrimidine as the acceptor were investigated. The impact of substituents on vibronic coupling efficiency between singlet and triplet states, and the influence of adamantyl groups on intramolecular motions, were observed. The findings highlight the complexity of vibronic couplings in mediating reverse intersystem crossing and suggest a potential synthetic tool for future investigations in this area.

Multi-Resonance Deep-Red Emitters with Shallow Potential-Energy Surfaces to Surpass Energy-Gap Law

Yuewei Zhang et al.

Summary: Efficient deep-red organic emitters with high quantum efficiencies were developed by constructing polycyclic heteroaromatics with multiple boron and nitrogen atoms. The introduction of specific structures led to restricted π-bonding states and shallow potential energy surfaces, enabling the emitters to achieve high quantum efficiencies in a normal planar organic light-emitting diode structure.

Wide-Range Color Tuning of Narrowband Emission in Multi-resonance Organoboron Delayed Fluorescence Materials through Rational Imine/Amine Functionalization

Minlang Yang et al.

Summary: Establishing a simple and versatile design strategy to modulate emission colors while maintaining high efficiency and color purity is challenging for MR-TADF materials. By introducing specific functional groups, it is possible to achieve fine tuning of emission colors without compromising narrow spectral features, leading to the development of high-efficiency and color-pure organic light-emitting diodes.

Bridged Aromatic Oxo- and Thioethers with Intense Emission in Solution and the Solid State

Steffen Riebe et al.

Summary: This study explores a class of emitters based on bridged oxo- and/or thioethers, which exhibit remarkable photoluminescence properties in fluid solution and the solid state. The research discovered compounds with nearly identical photoluminescence quantum yields in solution and in the solid state, a rare finding. Additionally, the study sheds light on the influence of polymorphism and solvent polarity on emission properties through quantum chemical calculations and X-ray diffractometric analysis.
