Band gap modulation of organic-inorganic Sb(iii) halide by molecular design

Yan-Ning Wang et al.

Summary: Organic-inorganic hybrid materials exhibit structural diversity and flexibility. Adding Sb(iii) metal ions to the inorganic components of these materials can give them semiconductor properties. In this study, the band gap of (C10H16N)(3)Sb2Cl9 material was successfully adjusted by substituting a halogen for the third hydrogen atom of the benzene ring in its organic cation, resulting in a change from 2.933 eV to 2.788 eV. This modification may be attributed to the influence of organic cations on the anions, which gradually reduced the Cl-Sb-Cl bond angle. This research is expected to inspire the design of tunable bandgap semiconductor materials.

(C16H28N)2SbCl5: A new lead-free zero-dimensional metal-halide hybrid with bright orange emission

Hui Peng et al.

Summary: Zero-dimensional metal halides have unique optoelectronic properties, with a synthesized antimony-based metal halide exhibiting broadband orange emission and dual emission peaks attributed to different exciton transitions. The presence of strong anharmonic electron-phonon interaction and singlet and triplet self-trapped excitons contribute to the observed characteristics. Additionally, a stable white-light-emitting diode with high color rendering index was successfully fabricated based on the excellent emission and stability of the metal halide.

Expanding the 0D Rb7M3X16 (M=Sb, Bi; X=Br, I) Family: Dual-Band Luminescence in Rb7Sb3Br16

Kyle M. McCall et al.

Summary: This study presents the successful synthesis of Rb7Sb3Br16 with a 0D structure and weak orange photoluminescence at room temperature. Experimental results revealed two distinct emission bands in the material, with the higher energy emission quenching as temperature increases. Additionally, Rb7Bi3Br16 and Rb7Bi3I16 were obtained, with the former showing weak low-temperature luminescence and the latter being non-luminescent, expanding the library of emissive inorganic metal halides.

Photoluminescent ionic metal halides based on s2 typed ions and aprotic ionic liquid cations

Jian-Ce Jin et al.

Summary: This review summarizes recent progress on the syntheses, structures, and PL properties of inorganic-organic hybrid metal halides with the formulas of [AILC](a)[MbXcLd] (M = s(2) typed metal ion, X = halogen, L = N or O-donor organic ligand). Two types of halometallate anions based on s(2) typed metal ions are structurally classified, including pure inorganic halometallate anions and those with coordinating N or O-donor organic ligands, mainly haloantimonates and halobismuthates. The article also provides insights into the structural characteristics of the hybrid materials, their syntheses, structures and PL properties, as well as the PL-structure relationships and luminescent mechanisms. Additionally, potential challenges and opportunities in this field are proposed.
