Effect of Linker Distribution in the Photocatalytic Activity of Multivariate Mesoporous Crystals

Belen Lerma-Berlanga et al.

Summary: Metal-Organic Frameworks are used as crystalline matrices to synthesize multiple component or multivariate solids, allowing for property customization. By optimizing synthesis through high-throughput methods, it is possible to create multivariate frameworks with efficient light sensitization, chemical stability, and porosity for photocatalysis applications. Solvent-assisted linker exchange reactions can control the distribution of linkers in crystals, affecting their performance in photocatalytic activities.

25 Years of Reticular Chemistry

Ralph Freund et al.

Summary: The core of reticular chemistry has brought precision and expertise of organic and inorganic synthesis to the solid state. The most profound scientific innovation of this field has been the design strategies for the synthesis of extended crystalline solids through strong directional bonds, highlighting the different classes of reticular materials developed and how complexity can be introduced into their backbones. Structural control over these materials is being extended from the molecular scale to their crystal morphology and shape on the nanoscale, all the way to their shaping on the bulk scale.

Chiral Induction in Buckminsterfullerene Using a Metal-Organic Framework

Shao-Wei Lo et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that a chiral metal-organic framework can guide the formation of highly chiral nanocomposites with intense chiral signals from buckminsterfullerene through in situ self-assembly strategy. Experimental and theoretical studies reveal that the chiral induction is attributed to the hybridization of molecular orbitals with the pore surface of the MOF.

Turning Flexibility into Rigidity: Stepwise Locking of Interpenetrating Networks in a MOF Crystal through Click Reaction

Damian Jedrzejowski et al.

Summary: Post-synthetic modifications of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) using inverse-electron demand Diels-Alder (iEDDA) reactions were employed to control the structural flexibility and porosity of an open framework material. The modifications resulted in a series of MOFs with stepwise decrease in flexibility and increase in adsorption capacity, demonstrating the versatility and efficiency of iEDDA modification in functionalizing open framework materials under mild conditions.
