Label-free colorimetric assay for arsenic(III) determination based on a truncated short ssDNA and gold nanoparticles

Dongwei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study utilized a short ssDNA (Apt-21) derived from the parent As(III) aptamer for colorimetric determination of As(III) by regulating the dispersion of gold nanoparticles while serving as a recognition element. The assay showed a linear relationship between the absorbance ratio of AuNPs at 650nm to 520nm and As(III) concentration, with a detection limit of 0.18 ppb, demonstrating its feasibility by achieving mean recoveries of 96.5-107.1% in spiked water samples.

Arsenic exposure from groundwater: environmental contamination, human health effects, and sustainable solutions

Elida Cristina Monteiro De Oliveira et al.

Summary: Arsenic is naturally occurring but can also contaminate groundwater due to mining, agricultural, and industrial processes. Human exposure to arsenic from contaminated water can lead to acute toxicity and chronic effects, including skin lesions and cancer. Strategies to diminish arsenic in water include physicochemical treatment systems, bioremediation using cyanobacteria and algae, and nanotechnology applications.

Arsenic speciation in rice samples for trace level determination by high performance liquid chromatography-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry

Semih Kara et al.

Summary: This study utilized a combination of high-performance liquid chromatography and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (HPLC-ICP-MS) to separate and quantify six arsenic species. The method demonstrated high sensitivity and accuracy, with limits of detection ranging between 0.14-0.29 ng/mL. Spike recovery experiments on rice samples validated the method's applicability to complex matrices, with recovery results ranging between 93 and 109%. Triplicate measurements on all spiked samples recorded percent relative standard deviation values below 10%, indicating the reliability and precision of the method.

Assessment of arsenic distribution, bioaccessibility and speciation in rice utilizing continuous extraction and in vitro digestion

Pengfei Wang et al.

Summary: Rice, a staple food for half the world's population, easily accumulates arsenic. This study found that most of the arsenic in rice is in the protein, with different protein fractions containing varying amounts of arsenic. The bioaccessibility of arsenic in rice was positively correlated with the arsenic mass in protein fractions.
