Murine typhus is an undifferentiated febrile illness that has historically been prevalent in Latin America but has been rarely reported in recent decades. However, endemic foci have reemerged when clinicians and researchers are aware. The demonstrable seroprevalence in areas without reported cases indicates that murine typhus is an underappreciated infectious disease in Latin America.
