The Polysorbate containing AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine is tolerated by polyethylene glycol (PEG) allergic patients

Priya Sellaturay et al.

Summary: The study investigated the safety of vaccinating PEG-allergic patients with the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. The results showed that all eight patients allergic to PEG tolerated the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, even in cases where the skin prick tests for PS80 and the vaccine itself were positive. This suggests that there may not be a clinical cross-reactivity between PEG and PS80 in this specific vaccine setting.

Evaporation-controlled dripping-onto-substrate (DoS) extensional rheology of viscoelastic polymer solutions

Benjamin P. Robertson et al.

Summary: This study developed a chamber to control evaporation during dripping-onto-substrate extensional rheology measurements, and validated its effectiveness by measuring high molecular weight polyethylene oxide (PEO) solutions in various organic solvents. The results showed that evaporation significantly increased the extensional relaxation time of PEO solutions, and confirmed the importance of environmental control in obtaining accurate rheological parameters.

Temperature-controlled dripping-onto-substrate (DoS) extensional rheometry of polymer micelle solutions

Diana Y. Zhang et al.

Summary: This study develops an environmental control chamber to enable temperature-controlled dripping-onto-substrate (TC-DoS) measurements and explores the temperature-dependent flow behavior of polymer micelles. The results demonstrate that the micelles exhibit different capillary thinning behaviors at different temperatures, highlighting the significant influence of temperature on the extensional rheology of polymer micelles.

A microfluidic approach to studying the injection flow of concentrated albumin solutions

Alfredo Lanzaro

Summary: The study focuses on the extensional behavior of concentrated bovine serum albumin (BSA) solutions during injection process, and finds that extensional viscosity plays a crucial role in the injection of proteinaceous drugs. The research contrasts with the traditional emphasis on shear flow in complex fluids.

Surface Tension and Self-association Properties of Aqueous Polysorbate 20 HP and 80 HP Solutions: Insights into Protein Stabilisation Mechanisms

Patrick Garidel et al.

Summary: The study focused on determining the self-association properties of compendial grade polysorbate 20 HP (PS 20 HP) and polysorbate 80 HP (PS 80 HP) regarding micelle size, critical micelle concentration range (cmr), and surface tension. Results showed that PS 80 HP formed larger micelles compared to PS 20 HP, with critical micelle concentration range values (cmr) at 25 degrees Celsius being considerably lower for PS 80 HP. The temperature dependency of the micelle size was more pronounced for PS 80 HP.

Product-Specific Impact of Viscosity Modulating Formulation Excipients During Ultra-High Concentration Biotherapeutics Drug Product Development

Danika Rodrigues et al.

Summary: Developing ultra-high concentration biotherapeutics drug products can pose challenges due to increased viscosity, processing, and stability issues. This study examines the effects of classic stabilizers and viscosity modulators at low to high protein concentrations on ultra-high protein formulations. Results show that excipients' impact on viscosity and concentratability varies between high and ultra-high protein concentrations.

Summary: Limited studies have been conducted on extensional rheology in protein solutions due to volume constraints and measurement challenges. A small-volume DoS device was developed to measure capillary thinning of protein solutions, revealing different behaviors based on concentration and components.
