Effects of thidiazuron and ethephon on the grain filling and dehydration characteristics of maize in Northeast China

Lijie Li et al.

Summary: A mixture of ethephon and thidiazuron can effectively reduce maize grain moisture content and improve yield and quality of mechanical grain harvesting. The mixture can accelerate leaf senescence and increase the rates of grain, bract, and cob dehydration.

Cropping systems alter hydraulic traits of barley but not pea grown in mixture

Qing Sun et al.

Summary: Research showed that pea and barley have contrasting hydraulic behaviors, with barley being more vulnerable and stressed under conventional farming with no tillage, while pea is less affected under organic farming with intensive tillage. The native percentage loss of hydraulic conductivity (nPLC) proved to be a valuable indicator for plant water stress. These results emphasize the importance of cropping systems on crop xylem vulnerability and drought resistance for future food security.
