Understanding the control characteristics of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for urban air mobility

Marilena D. Pavel

Summary: The aim of this paper is to understand the control characteristics of representative eVTOL quadcopters used in Urban Air Mobility. The study focuses on the effects of rpm control, propeller pitch control, and a combination of both on the flight characteristics. The results show that varying both rpm and rotor pitch is the best option for controlling the pitch maneuver, as it brings the system closer to velocity control and dampens the transients caused by motor dynamics.

Conflict-free four-dimensional path planning for urban air mobility considering airspace occupancy

Wei Dai et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the conflict-free path planning problem for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) operations with consideration of four-dimensional airspace management, proposing a Conflict-Free A* (CFA*) algorithm based on a first-come-first-served scheme. Numerical simulations show that the algorithm can efficiently generate paths resolving potential conflicts, providing important reference for UAM development.

MIMC-VINS: A Versatile and Resilient Multi-IMU Multi-Camera Visual-Inertial Navigation System

Kevin Eckenhoff et al.

Summary: This article proposes a real-time consistent multi-IMU multi-camera (MIMC) VINS estimator that seamlessly fuses multimodal information from an arbitrary number of uncalibrated cameras and IMUs within an efficient multi-state constraint Kalman filter framework. The system is able to provide smooth, uninterrupted, and accurate 3-D motion tracking even when some sensors fail, and is validated through Monte Carlo simulations and real-world experiments.

A distributed GNSS/INS integrated navigation system in a weak signal environment

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: A distributed GNSS/INS integrated navigation system based on VT is proposed in this paper to improve navigation accuracy in weak environments. The system utilizes changes in pseudo-range rate and pseudo-range from the loop to output reliable navigation results through a distributed navigation filter. Field tests show that the system can achieve reliable navigation in weak signal environments.
