High-Performance, Polarization-Sensitive, Long-Wave Infrared Photodetection via Photothermoelectric Effect with Asymmetric van der Waals Contacts

Mingjin Dai et al.

Summary: PTE detectors offer the potential for ultra-broadband photodetection at room temperature without an external power supply, but their performance in the LWIR regime still requires improvement in terms of speed, responsivity, and noise level. A high-performance PTE photodetector based on low-symmetry palladium selenide (PdSe2) with asymmetric van der Waals contacts demonstrates excellent responsivity and response time, showing sensitivity to linear polarization angles.

Van der Waals two-color infrared photodetector

Peisong Wu et al.

Summary: With the increasing demand for multispectral information acquisition, there has been extensive attention on inexpensive and miniaturizable infrared multispectral imaging technology. However, the high cost of epitaxial semiconductors and complex cooling systems limit the widespread usage of these photodetectors. In this study, a noncooled two-color infrared photodetector is demonstrated, which achieves ultralow crosstalk and impressive performance for NIR/MWIR two-color infrared imaging and absolute temperature detection.

Self-Powered Filterless On-Chip Full-Stokes Polarimeter

Chen Fang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a filterless on-chip full-Stokes polarimeter based on a single-layer MoS2/few-layer MoS2 homojunction, which can conveniently sense four Stokes parameters of incident light at zero bias without requiring an extra filtering layer and can function in a specific wavelength range with acceptable average errors. This device is easy to integrate with silicon-based chips and has much smaller sizes compared to metasurface based polarimeters, providing an excellent paradigm for high-performance on-chip filterless polarimeters.

Mid-infrared semimetal polarization detectors with configurable polarity transition

Jingxuan Wei et al.

Summary: A nanoantenna-mediated semimetal photodetector, capable of configurable polarity transition and covering a wide range of polarization ratios from positive to negative values, has been reported. This device breaks the conventional relationship between polarization ratio (PR) and diattenuation, allowing for PR values to approach infinity at the polarity-transition point.

Design of on-chip polarimetry with Stokes-determined silicon photonic circuits

Liang Fang et al.

Summary: The article proposes a new design of on-chip Stokes polarimetric scheme based on polarization-dependent silicon photonic circuits, which can simultaneously measure different polarization components of incident light to achieve full measurement of incident polarization states. This new design is expected to enrich the family of micro-nano polarimetric devices and pave the way for polarization-based integrated optoelectronics, nanophotonics, and metrology.

Unipolar barrier photodetectors based on van der Waals heterostructures

Yunfeng Chen et al.

Summary: Band-engineered van der Waals heterostructures are able to construct high room-temperature detectivity detectors for visible light and blackbody infrared light by blocking dark current without suppressing photocurrent. Utilizing two-dimensional materials with self-passivated surfaces and tunable band structures, unipolar barriers can be designed to avoid lattice mismatch and interface defects, achieving low dark current and high detectivity in photodetectors.
