Pathogenesis of cutaneous T cell lymphoma: Involvement of Staphylococcus aureus

Kazuyasu Fujii

Summary: Mycosis fungoides (MF) and Sezary syndrome (SS) are representative cutaneous lymphomas, with a shift from Th1 to Th2 environment as the disease progresses. Staphylococcus aureus is highly sensitive in advanced stages, and susceptibility to infection is related to the main symptoms of MF.

Transcriptional Heterogeneity and the Microbiome of Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma

Philipp Licht et al.

Summary: Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphomas (CTCL) exhibit clinical variability and transcriptional heterogeneity, with different T-cell subtypes suggested as sources of the disease. The microbiome may play a role in disease progression and transcriptional heterogeneity, and microbial approaches have the potential to aid in diagnosis and treatment of CTCL.

Combination of FLG mutations and SNPs of IL-17A and IL-19 influence on atopic dermatitis occurrence

Jolanta Klonowska et al.

Summary: SNPs of IL-17A rs2275913 and IL-19 rs22431188 do not appear to have a direct influence on the course and occurrence of AD when studied alone. However, the coexistence of the GG genotype of IL-17A and the 2282del4 FLG mutation may play a role as a prognostic factor for AD.

Interleukin-31 is overexpressed in skin and serum in cutaneous T-cell lymphomas but does not correlate to pruritus

Berenika Olszewska et al.

Summary: This study investigated the serum level of interleukin-31 (IL-31) and the expression of IL-31, IL-31 receptor alpha (IL-31RA), and oncostatin M receptor beta (OSMR) in the skin of patients with cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCL). The results showed that IL-31 and IL-31 receptor expression were significantly higher in CTCL and atopic dermatitis (AD) compared to healthy controls. However, there was no significant correlation between IL-31 serum levels and pruritus severity in CTCL patients, and no correlation between IL-31/IL-31RA/OSMR expression in the skin and CTCL pruritus. IL-31 and IL-31RA in CTCL skin were negatively correlated with the stage of disease.

The polymorphisms of IL-6/STAT3 signaling pathway may contribute to cutaneous T-cell lymphomas susceptibility

Berenika Olszewska et al.

Summary: The study found that the serum IL-6 level was significantly higher in CTCL patients compared to healthy controls. The CC genotype of IL-6 and GG genotype of STAT3 were overexpressed in CTCL patients, increasing the risk of malignancy development. Additionally, the GG genotype of STAT3 polymorphism seemed to be associated with a lack of pruritus or mild pruritus in CTCL patients.

Clinical Guidelines and New Molecular Targets for Cutaneous Lymphomas

Makoto Sugaya

Summary: Primary cutaneous lymphomas are heterogeneous lymphoproliferative disorders, with a need for more effective treatment options for advanced disease. The frequency of each subtype varies among different ethnic groups and the differences in clinical guidelines worldwide are important to consider. Current chemotherapy is temporarily effective, but strategies targeting tumor-specific molecules are being developed for improved treatment outcomes.

Staphylococcus aureus Induces Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 5-Dependent miR-155 Expression in Cutaneous T-Cell

Andreas Willerslev-Olsen et al.

Summary: Staphylococcal enterotoxins induce the expression of oncogenic miR-155 in malignant T cells, promoting disease activity in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Antibiotics inhibit this process, but the specific mechanism is not fully understood.

Safety and danger of biologic treatments in psoriasis in context of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL)

Karol Kolkowski et al.

Summary: The microenvironment plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of CTCL and the safety of using biologics to treat psoriasis should be carefully considered. Biopsy and pathological examination are necessary to exclude the possibility of primary cutaneous lymphoma before initiating therapies affecting cytokine profiles.
