Enhanced skin penetration of berberine from proniosome gel attenuates pain and inflammation in a mouse model of osteoarthritis

Choon Keong Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, a proniosome gel comprising non-ionic surfactants was developed for the delivery of the anti-inflammatory compound berberine. The gel was able to efficiently release berberine by modulating its hydrating ability. The results showed that the proniosome gel could effectively deliver berberine into the skin and attenuate inflammation and pain in a mouse model of osteoarthritis.

Robust and scalable production of emulsion-templated microparticles in 3D-printed milli-fluidic device

Yoon-Ho Hwang et al.

Summary: Emulsions are ideal templates for preparing functional microparticles, but mass production of oil-in-water emulsions has been a practical hurdle. In this study, a novel 3D-printed milli-fluidic device (3D-PMD) was developed for robust and scalable production of water-in-oil and oil-in-water emulsions. The device integrated 40 drop-makers, a 3D void geometry, and a flow distributor using additive manufacturing. Experimental results and simulations confirmed the design's validity and the device's capability to produce controllable microgels and microparticles. The simple and low-cost 3D-PMD method offers a unique route for producing emulsions in a robust and scalable manner, with a wide range of applications.

Design and Characterization of Elastic Artificial Skin Containing Adenosine-Loaded Solid Lipid Nanoparticles for Treating Wrinkles

Sooho Yeo et al.

Summary: In this study, an elastic artificial skin for treating wrinkles with poor skin permeation of adenosine was developed, along with a lipid-based nano-carrier to enhance the skin permeation of adenosine. The results showed that the elastic artificial skin incorporated with adenosine-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles exhibited better drug release characteristics.

Biocompatible Wax-Based Microcapsules with Hermetic Sealing for Thermally Triggered Release of Actives

Sang A. Ryu et al.

Summary: The study presents a microfluidic approach using temperature-responsive and biocompatible palm oil as the shell material in microcapsules for hermetic sealing and on-demand temperature-triggered release of encapsulated actives. The palm oil shell prevents pores or cracks formation during freezing, providing a nearly perfect seal that effectively isolates and protects the encapsulated materials. Furthermore, the biocompatible nature of palm oil allows for new perspectives in microcapsule design for cosmetic applications.
