Heterodinuclear Mg(II)M(II) (M=Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn) Complexes for the Ring Opening Copolymerization of Carbon Dioxide/Epoxide and Anhydride/Epoxide

Natalia Reis et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates a series of heterodinuclear Mg(II)M(II) complexes to identify the most effective metal combinations for the catalysed ring opening copolymerizations of carbon dioxide/epoxide and anhydride/epoxide. Mg(II)Co(II) and Mg(II)Fe(II) are found to be the fastest catalysts with high selectivity and control. Additionally, the transition metal heterodinuclear complexes exhibit synergic rate enhancements compared to the homodinuclear Mg(II)Mg(II) complex.

Heterodinuclear catalysts Zn(ii)/M and Mg(ii)/M, where M = Na(i), Ca(ii) or Cd(ii), for phthalic anhydride/cyclohexene oxide ring opening copolymerisation

Arron C. Deacy et al.

Summary: Anhydride and epoxide ring opening copolymerisation can produce aliphatic, semi-aromatic, and functionalised polyesters through the use of heterodinuclear catalysts. These catalysts show high efficiency in forming ester linkages, but exhibit lower activity compared to certain previously reported catalysts. Further exploration of factors influencing synergic heterometallic combinations is needed.
