Stochastic Free Vibration Analysis of Beam on Elastic Foundation with the Random Field of Young's Modulus Using Finite Element Method and Monte Carlo Simulation

Phu-Cuong Nguyen et al.

Summary: This research investigates the natural frequencies of a beam on an elastic foundation with uncertain material using a Monte Carlo simulation based on finite element analysis. The elastic modulus is assumed to be a homogeneous Gaussian random field, generated using the spectral representation method. An iterative algorithm is used to calculate the natural frequencies with various generated functions of the elastic modulus. The effects of the random field on the variability in natural frequency response and the effects of foundation coefficients are discussed in detail.

Experimental and numerical study on free vibration characteristics of laminated composite plate with/without cut-out

Leena Sinha et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental and numerical study on the free vibration characteristics of laminated composite plates with/without cut-out. Various parameters, such as fiber and epoxy weight fraction, fiber orientation, cut-out size and location, as well as plate thickness and ply orientation, were analyzed for their effects on the natural frequencies. The study shows good agreement between the experimental and finite element analysis results, indicating the significant influence of these parameters on the natural frequencies of laminated composite plates.
