Numerical simulation of fully encapsulated rock bolts with a tri-linear constitutive relation

Jianhang Chen et al.

Summary: This paper modified the structural elements of pile in FLAC3D and used pull tests to verify their effectiveness in analyzing the performance of rock bolts. A numerical coal roadway was used to analyze the effect of relevant factors on the performance of bolts. The results showed that the bonding strength and applied vertical stress had significant impacts on the performance of bolts.

Fault-Induced Coal Burst Mechanism under Mining-Induced Static and Dynamic Stresses

Wu Cai et al.

Summary: This paper explores the relationships between coal mining layouts and fault occurrences, and proposes mechanisms of fault reactivation and its induced coal burst based on the superposition of static and dynamic stresses. Experimental investigations, numerical modeling, and in situ microseismic monitoring are used to validate these mechanisms, leading to discussions on monitoring methods and prevention strategies for fault-induced coal bursts.

Analytical studying the axial performance of fully encapsulated rock bolts

Jianhang Chen et al.

Summary: A theoretical solution was proposed to investigate the performance of fully encapsulated rock bolts, which included simulating the coupling and decoupling behavior of the B/G interface and confirming the feasibility through physical experiments. The advantage of this theoretical model lies in the direct acquisition of all input parameters from experimental pullout scenarios.

Numerical investigation into impacts of major fault on coal burst in longwall mining-A case study

Chunchen Wei et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of geological faults on coal burst in underground mining through a large-scale discontinuum model. By calculating four model indicators, the behavior of fault-slip, stress, and strain energy changes during longwall retreat were analyzed, leading to the development of a coal burst risk classification. A parametric study was conducted to explore the effects of various conditions on fault-slip behavior and stress and strain energy distributions, providing insights into coal burst proneness assessment.

Principles and methods of rock support for rockburst control

Charlie Chunlin Li

Summary: This paper discusses the principles of rock support for rockburst control in deep metal mines and the use of three rockburst support systems. To prevent rock ejection during a rockburst, the support system must be able to dissipate excessive release energy, including surface-retaining devices and energy-absorbing yield rockbolts.

Mechanical behavior of marble exposed to freeze-thaw-fatigue loading

Zhengyang Song et al.

Summary: The test results indicate that an increase in FT cycles and fatigue load level accelerates the damage rate of marble, leading to larger axial strain rate, radial strain rate, and increasing Poisson's ratio. A warning level is defined based on the evolution of radial strain and Poisson's ratio. Advance ratio and lag ratio are effective indicators for predicting rock failure when subjected to FTF actions.

Performance of identical rockbolts tested on four dynamic testing rigs employing the direct impact method

Charlie C. Li et al.

Summary: Impact drop tests are commonly used to evaluate the dynamic performance of rockbolts. A study conducted impact tests on identical rockbolts in four different laboratories and found a high level of repeatability within each lab, but variations between labs. Equipment-dependent bias was observed when comparing results from different laboratories. The results will guide the development of standardized testing protocols for dynamic impact tests of rockbolts.

Quantitative mechanism of roadway rockbursts in deep extra-thick coal seams: Theory and case histories

Lianpeng Dai et al.

Summary: Rockbursts are a severe dynamic disaster in mines, globally recognized as one of the most serious incidents. By using stability theory, this study obtained critical indexes for remotely triggered rockbursts, including key stress indicators for surrounding rock softening and fracture occurrence. Through quantitative calculations using typical case histories, the main influencing factors and laws of rockbursts were determined, laying a foundation for the development of quantitative criteria for rockbursts.

A physical model study of surrounding rock failure near a fault under the influence of footwall coal mining

Shukun Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that as the coal pillar width decreases, the deformation of the surrounding rock near the fault increases. When the coal pillar width is 7.5 meters, the pressure on the hanging wall rock mass suddenly increases, indicating the rationality of the fault coal pillar design.
