'NOT ONLY RUSSIAN': EXPLORATIONS IN CONTEMPORARY RUSSOPHONE LITERATURE. INTRODUCTION

Naomi Caffee

Summary: This introduction provides an overview of the current research on Russophone literature, which is broadly defined as literature written in Russian by authors who do not identify as Russian. The author situates this research within the context of transnational and postcolonial trends in Russian, East European, and Eurasian literary studies. The thematic and geographical scope of the research cluster is outlined, focusing on works from Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, and the United States published in the past decade. The articles in this special issue share common themes such as identity politics, language ideology, the creation of new national ideas, responses to post-Euromaidan geopolitical struggles, and the intersection of contemporary writing and new media.
