Machine learning assisted probabilistic creep-fatigue damage assessment

Hang-Hang Gu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method that uses machine learning framework and the divide-and-conquer methodology to expand the sample size of creep-fatigue life under different load conditions, taking into account material variability. Random accumulated creep and fatigue damage are obtained through Latin hypercube sampling simulation, and a relative scatter factor is introduced to reveal the dominance of creep/fatigue on life scatter. A probabilistic creep-fatigue damage assessment diagram with a probabilistic equipo-tential line is established, providing a reference for safety evaluations and potential for further creep-fatigue life design.

Probabilistic fatigue modelling of metallic materials under notch and size effect using the weakest link theory

Xue-Kang Li et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new probabilistic fatigue model for notch fatigue analysis in structural integrity design. By combining the weakest link theory with the strain energy concept, a connection is established between the experimental data of smooth specimens and the strain energy density of notched ones. Experimental results show that the proposed model has higher accuracy.

A convex hull-based approach for multiaxial high-cycle fatigue criteria

Giulia Scalet

Summary: Design methods for multiaxial high-cycle fatigue require the formulation of appropriate criteria for quantifying damage, such as the amplitude of shear stress. This paper presents a novel approach for computing the amplitude of shear stress based on the convex hull enclosing the stress history, validated on various paths and materials. The proposed method achieves high accuracy compared to alternative methods in the literature.

Summary: The study developed a general framework for fatigue reliability analysis by coupling Latin hypercube sampling with FE analysis to describe the combined effects of multi-source uncertainties on turbine bladed disks. Sensitivity analysis on geometrical uncertainty of the bladed disk showed its critical influence on fatigue lifetime and reliability. The study also highlighted the importance of geometric uncertainty factor in fatigue reliability of engineering components.
