Eleven-year solar cycles over the last millennium revealed by radiocarbon in tree rings

Summary: This study reconstructed a continuous, annually resolved atmospheric C-14 concentration record from tree rings covering almost the entire last millennium. It revealed the presence of the Schwabe cycle over the entire time range and identified some potentially harmful strong solar events. The record also provides a useful benchmark for radiocarbon dating accuracy.

Summary: Two new Bayesian C-14 models using IntCal20 with 17 new calibrated AMS ages for Early Bronze IV Tell Abu en-Ni'aj and Middle Bronze Age Tell el-Hayyat in the northern Jordan Valley were presented. These models show a consolidation of high chronologies for Early Bronze IV and revised transitions from Early Bronze IV to Middle Bronze Age at the two sites, contributing to a ongoing revision of Levantine chronologies and interpretive links between the Southern Levant and Egypt.
