Bacterial profile, antimicrobial susceptibility patterns, and associated factors of community-acquired pneumonia among adult patients in Gondar, Northwest Ethiopia: A cross-sectional study

Muluneh Assefa et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the bacterial isolates, antimicrobial susceptibility patterns, and factors associated with community-acquired pneumonia among adult patients in Gondar, Northwest Ethiopia. The results showed a high prevalence of bacteria-caused community-acquired pneumonia among adults with low susceptibility to certain antibiotics. Therefore, regular culture-based bacterial identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing are recommended, along with a focus on vaccine coverage against highly multi-drug resistant bacteria.

Inducible clindamycin resistance among clinical Staphylococcus aureus strains in Iran: A contemporaneous systematic review and meta-analysis

Mojtaba Memariani et al.

Summary: The overall prevalence of iMLS(B) phenotype in clinical S. aureus strains in Iran was found to be 10.40%, with these strains commonly encountered in wound and blood samples. The prevalence of iMLS(B) strains in S. aureus was higher than that of MRSA. Further nationwide surveillance studies are urgently needed to evaluate these strains.

Distribution of erm genes among MRSA isolates with resistance to clindamycin in a Chinese teaching hospital

Haiping Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed high rates of erythromycin and clindamycin resistance among different MRSA lineages in China, with varying resistance patterns and frequent presence of specific resistance genes in certain MRSA clones. Detection of resistance genes transfer between MRSA isolates in healthcare settings remains an issue, emphasizing the need for infection control measures.

Preventing and managing antimicrobial resistance in the African region: A scoping review protocol

Chinwe Juliana Iwu-Jaja et al.

Summary: Antimicrobial resistance poses a significant threat to health and food security in Africa. This scoping review aims to map evidence on interventions to prevent and manage AMR. Methods include interventions targeting multiple sectors to reduce AMR, decrease morbidity and mortality, raise awareness for rational antimicrobial use, and reduce antibiotic consumption.

Inducible clindamycin resistance andermgenes in Staphylococcus aureus in school children in Kathmandu, Nepal

Roshan Timsina et al.

Summary: The study in Nepal found that methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is prevalent among school children, with a significant number also showing inducible clindamycin resistance. The presence of ermC, ermB, and ermA genes in MRSA strains indicates the need for further investigation into the mechanisms of resistance in this population.
