Burnout and depression among psychiatry residents during COVID-19 pandemic

Abdulmajeed A. Alkhamees et al.

Summary: Very few studies have focused on the prevalence of burnout and depressive symptoms among non-frontline healthcare workers during an infectious outbreak, such as psychiatrists. This study found a significant relationship between burnout and depression among psychiatry residents in Saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 pandemic, with higher risk for those in the first 2 years of training and with a history of mental health treatment in the past 2 years. Urgent investment in mental health services and preventative strategies are needed to reduce the risk of burnout and depression among psychiatrists.
