Influence of surfactant polarity on the evolution of micro-texture, grain boundary constitution and corrosion behavior of electrodeposited Zn coatings

K. Sai Jyotheender et al.

Summary: Based on electrochemical experiments, Zn coatings with CTAB surfactant exhibited the highest corrosion resistance, while surfactant-free coatings showed the lowest corrosion resistance. The type of surfactant used also influenced the grain size and grain boundary constitution of the coatings.

Effect of annealing and irradiation on the evolution of texture and grain boundary interface in electrodeposited nanocrystalline nickel of varying grain sizes

S. Julie et al.

Summary: Ni coatings applied on structural alloys of molten-salt reactors have been found to enhance corrosion resistance. The annealed microstructure of electrodeposited nanocrystalline Ni of varying grain sizes, particularly the 20 nm and 50 nm samples, shows desirable microstructural attributes for corrosion resistance even under displacement damage up to 18.5 dpa.

Emergence of micro-galvanic corrosion in plastically deformed austenitic stainless steels

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: Localized plastic deformation has been found to make nuclear reactor components more susceptible to stress corrosion cracking (SCC). By analyzing the surface reactivity and corrosion behavior of deformed stainless steel specimens, research has shown that regions with higher dislocation concentrations exhibit increased reactivity due to a reduction in corrosion activation energy. The combination of surface reactivity and strain distributions suggests that SCC cracking is likely to occur in areas with localized strain where micro-galvanic corrosion is favored.

Summary: The study showed that there is a positive correlation between geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) density and proximity to intermetallic particles with pit initiation sites in 5083 aluminum alloy, while grain orientation and proximity to grain boundary have no correlation with pit initiation sites.

Influence of particle size and surfactants on uniformity and quantity of silicon carbide particles in electrodeposited nickel-silicon carbide coatings

Kan Hong-min et al.

Summary: The size of silicon carbide particles affects the uniformity and quantity of silicon carbide particles in nickel-silicon carbide composite coatings, with 40 nm particles being more effective than 500 nm particles. In terms of surfactants, anionic surfactant SDS produced better dispersion of 40 nm silicon carbide particles compared to cationic surfactant CTAB.

INFLUENCE OF SURFACTANTS ON COPPER-CNTs ELECTRODEPOSITION

Iryna Roslyk et al.

Summary: The influence of different types of surfactants on the electrodeposition of copper and carbon composite powder was experimentally investigated. It was found that adding surfactants decreased the size of powder particles and increased corrosion resistance, with the greatest effect observed when cationic surfactant CTAB was added to the electrolyte with simultaneous ultrasonic treatment for CNTs dispersion.

Correlating the Five-Parameter Grain Boundary Character Distribution and Corrosion Behavior of Zinc-Carbon Nanotube Composite Coatings

K. Sai Jyotheender et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that adding an optimal amount of CNT (initially 8 mg/L) in Zn coatings can achieve the best corrosion resistance performance, while continued addition of CNT leads to a decrease in corrosion resistance. The lower corrosion rate in Zn-CNT composite coatings is attributed to the presence of strong basal plane texture and special grain boundaries.
