The comparison of the properties of nanocellulose isolated from colonial and solitary marine tunicates

Naphatson Chanthathamrongsiri et al.

Summary: This study compared tunicate cellulose nanocrystalline (t-CNC) from colonial and solitary tunicates. Solitary tunicates showed higher microfibril contents after bleaching, but both types yielded similar t-CNC content after acid hydrolysis. The t-CNC isolated from solitary tunicates exhibited high aspect ratios and crystallinity indexes over 97%, making them a better source for t-CNC preparation compared to colonial tunicates.

Applications of Biocompatible Scaffold Materials in Stem Cell-Based Cartilage Tissue Engineering

Xia Zhao et al.

Summary: Cartilage, especially articular cartilage, is crucial for joint function and mobility, but has limited self-repair capacity. Cartilage tissue engineering (CTE) holds promise for repair, requiring effective chondrogenic factors, ample chondrogenic progenitors, and cell-friendly, biocompatible scaffold materials for success. Progress in these areas, along with advancements in 3D bio-printing, may improve clinical outcomes of cartilage repair.

Marine Natural Products from Tunicates and Their Associated Microbes

Chatragadda Ramesh et al.

Summary: Marine tunicates, particularly the species Sigillina signifera, are recognized for their potential as a source of marine natural products (MNPs) due to their symbiotic relationship with microbial groups. The tambjamines produced by these tunicates primarily originate from their bacterial symbionts and play a critical role in their chemical defense function, showcasing the ecological significance of symbiotic microbial associations. Additionally, research on tunicates-derived MNPs and their ecological functions, biological activities, metabolic origins, and utilization in various fields has been explored extensively in literature and chemical databases.
