Prevalence and predictors of diabetes mellitus among persons living with HIV: a retrospective cohort study conducted in 4 public healthcare facilities in KwaZulu-Natal

Summary: The study found a prevalence of diabetes among PLWHIV in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa to be 9%, with over 47% having uncontrolled blood sugar. Male gender and older age were identified as the main predictors of diabetes among PLWHIV. Public health care facilities in the region need to do more to manage diabetes in PLWHIV to prevent complications and negative impacts on HIV management outcomes.
