Post-mTBI Pain Interference in a US Military Population: A Chronic Effects of Neurotrauma Consortium Study

Bilal R. Khokhar et al.

Summary: This study examined the associations between mTBI, other comorbidities, and pain interference, finding that participants with high pain interference were more likely to have a history of multiple TBIs, clinical levels of post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. These results highlight the importance of considering mental health and sleep problems in the evaluation and treatment of pain in veterans and service members with mTBI(s).

An updated brief overview on post-traumatic headache and a systematic review of the non-pharmacological interventions for its management

Andreas A. Argyriou et al.

Summary: Post-traumatic headache (PTH) is a common type of headache secondary to traumatic brain injury (TBI) or whiplash, and it often remains undertreated due to limited pharmacological options. Non-pharmacological approaches, taking into account comorbidities and biopsychosocial factors, are commonly used in PTH patients. Research and ongoing trials suggest that combined pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions may be the most effective for managing PTH and related comorbidities, with multidisciplinary management providing the greatest benefits for patients.

Post-concussion symptoms three months after mild-to-moderate TBI: characteristics of sick-listed patients referred to specialized treatment and consequences of intracranial injury

Silje Christine Reistad Fure et al.

Summary: The study investigated patients with persistent post-concussion symptoms following mild-to-moderate TBI, finding a high symptom burden and decreased quality of life in the overall sample. Patients with traumatic intracranial abnormalities showed worse memory function compared to those without abnormalities. Therefore, in planning rehabilitation services for PPCS patients, factors beyond injury severity and traumatic intracranial abnormalities should be considered.

Subthreshold stimulation intensity is associated with greater clinical efficacy of intermittent theta-burst stimulation priming for Major Depressive Disorder

Jonathan C. Lee et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of intensity and pulse number on the clinical efficacy of intermittent theta-burst stimulation priming (iTBS-P) for treating depression. The findings suggest that subthreshold intensity iTBS-P resulted in greater clinical improvement compared to suprathreshold stimulation.

Therapeutic Effects of Meditation, Yoga, and Mindfulness-Based Interventions for Chronic Symptoms of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Rebecca L. Acabchuk et al.

Summary: The study found that meditation, yoga, and mindfulness-based interventions have significant effects on improving symptoms of chronic mild traumatic brain injury, particularly in mental health, physical health, cognitive performance, quality of life, and self-related processing. However, there are some quality concerns in the studies, including lack of randomization, blinding, and recording of adverse events.
