Architectural features and indoor evacuation wayfinding: The starting point matters

Asya Natapov et al.

Summary: This study establishes a link between human factors and architectural design in indoor emergency wayfinding by exploring interior wall transparency, evacuation starting points, and architectural landmarks through a virtual reality experiment. Findings show that wall transparency impacts wayfinding when combined with visibility at route starting points, and staircases and ramps are the most significant architectural landmarks in emergency wayfinding. In complex evacuation scenarios with low visibility conditions, wayfinding necessitates a greater number of architectural features.

Indoor landmark selection for route communication: the influence of route-givers' social roles and receivers' familiarity with the environment

Zhiyong Zhou et al.

Summary: In conveying routes in complex environments, human route-givers select landmarks based on route-receivers' familiarity with the environments and their own social roles. The research found an interaction effect between these factors in indoor landmark selection. These findings are crucial for developing human-centered navigation systems that can adapt to users' social roles and familiarity with the environment.

A unified 3D space-based navigation model for seamless navigation in indoor and outdoor

Jinjin Yan et al.

Summary: Seamless navigation has attracted attention with various methods explored, with a focus on a unified 3D space-based navigation model to support seamless path computation. This model ensures consistent representation, management, and network derivation across different types of spaces for navigation, proving feasibility in three navigation path planning cases.
