Design-based analysis in Difference-In-Differences settings with staggered adoption

Susan Athey et al.

Summary: This paper examines the estimation and inference of average treatment effects in panel data, particularly focusing on the staggered adoption setting. The study shows that under random assignment of adoption dates, the standard Difference-In-Differences (DID) estimator is an unbiased estimator of a specific weighted average causal effect, and characterizes the exact finite sample properties of this estimand. Additionally, it is demonstrated that the standard variance estimator tends to be conservative.

The impact of a carbon trading pilot policy on the low-carbon international competitiveness of industry in China: An empirical analysis based on a DDD model

Shao-zhou Qi et al.

Summary: The study found that the carbon trading pilot policy has a significant positive impact on the low-carbon international competitiveness of industries covered by the pilot programs, mainly by driving low-carbon technological progress to enhance industry competitiveness. Different industry characteristics and carbon allowance allocation methods play a significant role in the impact, especially in industries with low-carbon emissions, high state-owned capital, and high export intensity.

Summary: The study found that the construction of low-carbon cities significantly promotes the TFP growth of local enterprises, with technological innovation improvement and resource allocation efficiency optimization being important transmission mechanisms. The results are robust to a series of tests, indicating that the implementation of a low-carbon city pilot policy can help achieve the win-win goal of emission reduction and high-quality enterprise development.
