Land Use Transitions: Progress, Challenges and Prospects

Hualou Long et al.

Summary: Over the past two decades, research on land use transition has shown a focus on complex social issues, being driven by realistic demand, and research branches becoming clearer and more systematic. The key fields and hot topics include theories and hypothesis of land use transition, measuring land use transition, the impacts of land use transition on social-economic-ecological system, and drivers and regulation of land use transition. Challenges remain in fragmented research, and integrating with land system science, correcting dominant morphology bias, employing new techniques for observing and modeling recessive attributes, and considering distant drivers are all necessary for advancements in the field.
