Biodiversity, current developments and potential biotechnological applications of phosphorus-solubilizing and -mobilizing microbes: A review

Divjot Kour et al.

Summary: Phosphorus is an essential macronutrient for plant development, with various inorganic and organic forms existing in soil. A diverse range of plant and soil microbiomes have the capability to solubilize insoluble phosphorus through mechanisms such as production of organic acids and acid and alkaline phosphatases. The use of efficient phosphorus-solubilizing microorganisms can increase the uptake of phosphorus by crops, resulting in higher yields for agricultural and environmental sustainability.

Plant Growth and Drought Tolerance-Promoting Bacterium for Bioremediation of Paraquat Pesticide Residues in Agriculture Soils

Phatcharida Inthama et al.

Summary: Thailand heavily relies on herbicides, especially paraquat, for agricultural productivity, leading to paraquat accumulation in agricultural land. This study identified a bacterium, Bacillus aryabhattai strain MoB09, capable of degrading paraquat and promoting plant growth, offering potential for mitigating paraquat residues and enhancing plant productivity in organic crop production.

Drought accentuates the role of mycorrhiza in phosphorus uptake

David Puschel et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates that arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) play a significant role in enhancing phosphorus uptake by most plant species, even under limited water resources. The increased phosphorus uptake in plants grown under medium and low substrate moistures is likely due to the complementary effects of direct hyphal uptake and indirect alterations of substrate hydraulic properties by AMF.

Two Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Alleviates Drought Stress and Improves Plant Growth in Cinnamomum migao Seedlings

Xiaofeng Liao et al.

Summary: The inoculation of Glomus lamellosum and Glomus etunicatum in karst soils significantly promoted the growth of C. migao seedlings and enhanced their resistance to drought stress. This study demonstrates that arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi can be an effective strategy to improve the drought resistance of plants in karst habitats.
