The role of packaging in fighting food waste: A systematised review of consumer perceptions of packaging

Linda Brennan et al.

Summary: Food packaging is often seen as negative for the environment, but it actually serves to protect food, extend shelf life, and reduce food waste. Consumer knowledge and perception of packaging functions play a key role in their acceptance or rejection of new packaging technologies. Research on consumer perceptions of food packaging and their role in reducing food waste is lacking, highlighting the need for more studies in this area.

Facilitators and inhibitors of organic food buying behavior

Anushree Tandon et al.

Summary: Consumer interest in purchasing organic food is rising globally due to increasing personal-health consciousness, but this interest does not always translate into stated preferences for buying organic food, especially in developed economies like Japan. Health consciousness positively influences both facilitators and inhibitors, and stated buying behavior is influenced by both facilitators and inhibitors. The study findings also indicate that buying involvement (BI) and gender play roles in moderating the associations between factors and stated buying behavior.

Summary: Consumers' attitudes have an indirect impact on intention for green consumption, while negative reasons have a direct impact; both types of reasons are influenced by environmental values. Measures should be taken by governments and businesses to raise consumers' environmental values, reduce their negative reasons, and increase their positive reasons for supporting green consumption.
