Equalizing the spatial accessibility of emergency medical services in Shanghai: A trade-off perspective

Mengya Li et al.

Summary: Planning public services that promote equal access is important. This case study compares two models to optimize emergency medical service (EMS) in Shanghai and finds that the GO model is more effective in achieving equality, while the 2SO model offers a more balanced approach. The solutions of both models change as demands and travel costs vary over time, calling for dynamic adjustment of resource allocation and coordination with other agencies to handle natural disasters.

An integrative method for analyzing spatial accessibility in the hierarchical diagnosis and treatment system in China

Nan Yang et al.

Summary: Spatial accessibility to medical services (SAMS) is crucial for people to access healthcare conveniently. In China, difficulties in accessing medical services are a recognized social issue, leading to the establishment of the hierarchical diagnosis and treatment system (HDTS) in 2005. This study introduces a new integrative method to analyze SAMS within the context of HDTS, demonstrating its effectiveness in improving SAMS in a Chongqing case study and emphasizing the need for a new evaluation method for SAMS under HDTS.

Assessing equity in park accessibility using a travel behavior-based G2SFCA method in Nanjing, China

Zhiming Li et al.

Summary: The study established a TB-G2SFCA method to assess spatial equity of parks in Nanjing, revealing spatial disparities in park accessibility, with three suburban districts being severe, four central districts minor, and two central districts insignificant. These findings may help urban planners and policy makers improve spatial equity to parks in urban areas.

Modeling job accessibility using online map data: An extended two-step floating catchment area method with multiple travel modes

Weiye Xiao et al.

Summary: The study found that job accessibility is highly sensitive to travel modes, and using a combination of travel modes results in a more geographically balanced job accessibility index compared to using a single travel mode. The new job accessibility index also showed the impact of ring roads on the spatial distribution of job accessibility.

Measuring accessibility to health care services for older bus passengers: A finer spatial resolution

Wendong Chen et al.

Summary: The study proposed a method to measure the accessibility of health care services for older people using bus passenger data in Nanjing, China and found that the demand for older people was concentrated in the suburbs, high accessibility stations in urban districts were underutilized, and two types of home stations - those with medical institutions and those with bed shortages - deserve special attention.
