That Which is Essential has been Made Invisible: The Need to Bring a Structural Risk Perspective to Reduce Racial Disproportionality in Child Welfare

Megan Feely et al.

Summary: The racial and ethnic disproportionality and disparity within the child protective system has been a long-standing concern. Structural factors play a significant role in involvement with the child welfare system, with families experiencing poverty or financial hardship at higher risk. Economic factors and structural racism further compound the issue for Black, Native American, Alaska Native, and Latino/Hispanic families, leading to a greater prevalence of poverty. Addressing these disparities through standardized decision-making procedures and acknowledging the role of social determinants in child welfare involvement is crucial.

Broadening the stimulus set: Introducing the American Multiracial Faces Database

Jacqueline M. Chen et al.

Summary: Face-based perceptions are crucial for human interaction, and studying face perception requires diverse stimuli for ecologically valid conclusions. The American Multiracial Faces Database (AMFD) offers a collection of 110 faces with mixed-race heritage for researchers to study person perception and categorization processes. This database fills a gap in available face stimuli and will be valuable for a broad group of researchers studying face perception.
