The dark side of the rainbow: Homosexuals and bisexuals have higher Dark Triad traits than heterosexuals

Summary: Research on the Dark Triad traits in individuals with different sexual orientations shows that bisexuals and homosexuals tend to exhibit higher levels of Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism compared to heterosexual individuals. Particularly, bisexual women scored significantly higher on all Dark Triad traits than heterosexual women, supporting the gender shift hypothesis in same-sex sexual attraction for this group. These findings contradict the prosociality hypothesis of same-sex sexual attraction, suggesting alternative explanations such as life history and minority stress implications.

Summary: The study confirmed the measurement invariance of the Dark Triad Dirty Dozen (DTDD) across participants' sex in all world regions, with men scoring higher than women on all traits. There was evidence for metric (and partial scalar) measurement invariance within and between W.E.I.R.D. and non-W.E.I.R.D. world regions, generally supporting the structure of the DTDD.
