Confirmation bias is adaptive when coupled with efficient metacognition

Max Rollwage et al.

Summary: The impact of selective information processing is influenced by agents' introspective abilities, and individuals with good metacognition can improve decision-making by downweighting contradictory information and seeking new information in response to confirmation bias. Boosting people's metacognition might be efficient in alleviating the negative effects of selective information processing on issues such as political polarization.
