Selective directed forgetting is mediated by the lateral prefrontal cortex: Preliminary evidence with transcranial direct current stimulation

Summary: Recent research suggests that selective directed forgetting is an active control process that depends on executive control and the lateral prefrontal cortex. Using transcranial direct current stimulation, the study found that real stimulation disrupts selective directed forgetting and impairs performance in working memory tasks involving the lateral prefrontal cortex. These findings support the hypothesis that memory regulation is achieved through control processes mediated by the right lateral prefrontal cortex.
