The past, present and future of Registered Reports

Christopher D. Chambers et al.

Summary: Registered Reports were introduced a decade ago to improve the rigour and credibility of confirmatory research by peer reviewing study proposals before research is undertaken. While they are not a universal solution for irreproducibility, early evidence suggests that Registered Reports are working as intended and are promoting reproducibility, transparency, and self-correction across disciplines. The policies and practices surrounding Registered Reports are evolving to address limitations and adapt to new challenges.

Effects of Group Formation on Student Satisfaction and Performance: A Field Experiment

Adrienne Mueller et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of group formation on the outcomes of a 4-week online course for prospective students, with group formation experimentally manipulated based on predefined criteria and personality traits. While no significant main effect for experimental grouping was found, the significant interaction between main effects suggests that the results may not provide final answers but offer guidance for further research.

Self-regulated learning training programs enhance university students' academic performance, self-regulated learning strategies, and motivation: A meta-analysis

Maria Theobald

Summary: This meta-analysis examined the impacts of extended self-regulated learning training programs on university students' academic performance, self-regulated learning strategies, and motivation. The results showed positive effects on these three areas, with the largest effects seen on metacognitive and resource management strategies. Training effects varied for specific strategies, with feedback, cooperative learning arrangements, and learning protocols playing a role as moderators. Programs based on metacognitive theories had higher effects on academic achievement compared to those based on cognitive theories. Older students and those with lower academic achievement seemed to benefit more in terms of resource management strategies.

Supporting Peer Feedback on Learning Strategies: Effects on Self-Efficacy and Feedback Quality

Anika Buergermeister et al.

Summary: The study focused on investigating the effects of supporting distinct processes of assessment and providing feedback within a peer feedback setting on student teachers' self-efficacy and feedback quality. Results showed that student teachers perceived higher self-efficacy and produced better feedback quality when supported in writing feedback, with the combined support approach being most advantageous in the long run. The findings suggest that competencies for assessing and giving feedback should be fostered individually, and digital tools can be a beneficial approach for support.

Do Minimal Interventions Increase Participation Rates in Voluntary Online Training at High School?

Sophie van der Beek et al.

Summary: Research shows that self-regulated learning can be successfully promoted through training, but not all students voluntarily participate, leading to high dropout rates. Minimal interventions on utility value and implementation intention do not have a significant effect on training participation, with positive predictors being expectancy for success and mean grade score. Motivated students are more likely to participate in training compared to students with other profiles.
