The impact of cross border E-tailer's return policy on consumer's purchase intention

Bingjia Shao et al.

Summary: The study establishes a theoretical model of the impact of return policy leniency on consumer purchase intention in the context of cross-border ecommerce, based on signaling theory, cue utilization theory, and halo effect theory. The results show that a lenient return policy leads to higher perceived quality and lower perceived risk, increasing consumer purchase intention in the CBEC scenario. Additionally, the effects are stronger when the product ships from a domestic bonded warehouse or lacks a traceability code.
