Green Alga Enteromorpha prolifera Oligosaccharide Ameliorates Ageing and Hyperglycemia through Gut-Brain Axis in Age-Matched Diabetic Mice

Yuezhen Ouyang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of Enteromorpha prolifera oligosaccharide (EPO) on anti-ageing and anti-diabetic properties in age-matched streptozocin-induced diabetic mice. EPO showed significant improvements in glucose metabolism and superoxide dismutase activity, as well as regulation of metabolic pathways in the brain of aged diabetic mice. Additionally, EPO altered gut microbiota composition and diversity, and regulated glucose metabolite status and ageing through brain-gut axis.

Physicochemical characterization and antioxidant effects of green microalga Chlorella pyrenoidosa polysaccharide by regulation of microRNAs and gut microbiota in Caenorhabditis elegans

Xuzhi Wan et al.

Summary: The novel polysaccharide CPP from Chlorella pyrenoidosa showed potential in prolonging lifespan, inhibiting oxidative stress, and regulating gene expression in Caenorhabditis elegans. The study suggested that CPP could be considered as a desirable ingredient for regulating aging and oxidative diseases.

ι-Carrageenan Tetrasaccharide from ι-Carrageenan Inhibits Islet β Cell Apoptosis Via the Upregulation of GLP-1 to Inhibit the Mitochondrial Apoptosis Pathway

Yanqi Li et al.

Summary: Research suggests that iota CTs can alleviate insulin resistance caused by a high-fat and high-sucrose diet through multiple pathways, including reducing blood glucose levels, enhancing glucose tolerance, decreasing beta cell apoptosis, and promoting insulin secretion. Additionally, iota CTs increase GLP-1 levels by regulating bile acid levels, which contributes to the inhibition of beta cell apoptosis.

Clinical serum metabolomics study on fluoxetine hydrochloride for depression

Dandan Shen et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the antidepressant effect of fluoxetine hydrochloride using metabolomics, identifying 16 specific biomarkers of depression with 10 biomarkers significantly increased and 6 biomarkers significantly decreased in depression patients compared to healthy individuals. After 8 weeks of fluoxetine hydrochloride treatment, all biomarkers showed a trend of normalization, involving metabolic pathways such as amino acid metabolism, energy metabolism, and lipid metabolism.

D-(+)-Galactose-induced aging: A novel experimental model of erectile dysfunction

Mathania Silva de Almeida Rezende et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated for the first time that the D-(+)-Galactose-induced aging model is a suitable experimental model for assessing Erectile Dysfunction (ED). Results showed hyper-contractility in corpora cavernosa, significant endothelial dysfunction, increased ROS levels, an increase in cavernous tissue senescence, and the loss of essential penile erectile components.

Phenylalanine Metabolism Is Dysregulated in Human Hippocampus with Alzheimer's Disease Related Pathological Changes

Pan Liu et al.

Summary: Metabolomics analysis of postmortem human brain tissues revealed pervasive metabolic dysregulation, including abnormalities in phenylalanine metabolism, valine, leucine, and isoleucine biosynthesis, and other pathways, in the hippocampus of individuals with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The study identified upregulation of specific metabolites and enzymes associated with AD pathology, pointing towards a potential role of phenylalanine metabolism dysregulation in the formation of AD pathology.

Polysaccharides isolated from Laminaria japonica attenuates gestational diabetes mellitus by regulating the gut microbiota in mice

Huiting Lin et al.

Summary: The study showed that polysaccharides from Laminaria japonica have beneficial effects on gestational diabetes mellitus mice, potentially through altering gut microbiota, with the up-regulation of short-chain fatty acids-producing bacterium Turicibacter being a key factor. This indicates the potential of LP to serve as a prebiotic and food supplementation for GDM patients.

Functional foods with dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitory potential and management of type 2 diabetes: A review

Mutiu Kazeem et al.

Summary: Functional foods have shown potential in inhibiting DPP-4 in vitro, which can help reduce hyperglycemia. However, there is currently a lack of repository for this information, which could guide antidiabetic drug development. These findings may provide new insights for the development of antidiabetic drugs.
