Soft yet Tough: a Mechanically and Functionally Tissue-like Organohydrogel for Sensitive Soft Electronics

Gehong Su et al.

Summary: Human soft tissues like skins and muscles possess unique mechanical features and functionalities, which are challenging to mimic in artificial materials. In this study, the researchers successfully developed an organohydrogel that exhibits mechanical properties and functionalities resembling human soft tissues by constructing sacrificial bonds between a soft hydrogel matrix and glycerol. The organohydrogel shows remarkable softness, toughness, tear-resistance, strength, and ultrastretchability, and also possesses a range of tissue-like functionalities. This work has potential applications in personal healthcare monitoring, anti-counterfeiting, and soft electronic skins.

Toward the Copolymerization of Propylene with Polar Comonomers

Stephen L. J. Luckham et al.

Summary: Polyolefins, including polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), are widely used in consumer products and can be enhanced by forming composites with other materials. To improve their compatibility with other materials, the inclusion of polar functionalities in the polymer chain is essential. Different transition metal catalysts have varying effects on achieving this goal, with late transition metal catalysts being more suitable for reactions with polar comonomers.

A Highly Stretchable, Self-Healing Elastomer with Rate Sensing Capability Based on a Dynamic Dual Network

Peiyao Qu et al.

Summary: A highly stretchable, recyclable, self-healing polysiloxane elastomer with rate sensing capability has been designed and synthesized, overcoming the structural instability of conventional solid-liquid materials. The elastomer exhibits certain adhesion, satisfactory mechanical robustness, and superior elongation at break. After heating treatment, the mechanical properties of damaged materials can be almost completely restored. The elastomer can sense different rates by resistance change, principally in the range of 10 mm/min-150 mm/min, and can be personalized by 3D printing at room temperature.

Vanadium-Catalyzed Terpolymerization of α,ω-Dienes with Ethylene and Cyclic Olefins: Ready Access to Polar-Functionalized Polyolefins

Benedetta Palucci et al.

Summary: In this study, the terpolymerization of two alpha,omega-dienes with ethylene and various cyclic olefins catalyzed by a chelated imido vanadium complex was investigated. The resulting polyolefins showed high molecular weight, narrow molecular weight distribution, subambient glass transition temperatures, and proper content of C=C bonds. NMR analysis of the obtained polymers revealed the influence of subtle changes in the alpha,omega-diene size on the insertion paths during the polymerization process.
