Catalytic hydrogen combustion using platinum supported on anodized aluminium oxide adhered to metallic aluminium

Stephanus P. du Preez et al.

Summary: The implementation of catalytic hydrogen combustion can reduce the reliance on solid fuel in Sub-Saharan Africa. This study explores the use of nanostructured anodized aluminium oxide as a support material, with platinum nanoparticles acting as the reactive metal for the CHC reaction. The results showed a sustained combustion temperature and a relatively stable particle size increase of the Pt catalyst.

Highly efficient Pt catalyst on newly designed CeO2-ZrO2-Al2O3 support for catalytic removal of pollutants from vehicle exhaust

Wei Tan et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the improvement of Pt-CeO2 catalysts by designing new ceria-based supports. Through a unique T-IWI method, a Pt single site catalyst with excellent thermal stability was synthesized on a CZA-T support. The catalyst showed higher oxidation activity and Oxygen storage capacity (OSC) compared to traditional Pt catalysts on regular CeO2/Al2O3 and one-step prepared CeZrOx/Al2O3 supports. The higher Pt dispersion and stronger Pt-O-Ce interaction on the CZA-T support played a vital role in the CO oxidation performance and OSC of the catalyst.

Phase and microstructure evolution of Sc2O3-CeO2 -ZrO2ceramics in Na2SO4 + V2O5 molten salts

Jinshuang Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the destabilization resistance of Sc2O3 and CeO2 co-stabilized ZrO2 (SCZ) ceramics in Na2SO4 + V2O5 molten salts at different temperatures. Analysis of phase structure and microstructure evolution was conducted using various techniques, revealing the destabilization mechanism under hot corrosion. Results indicated excellent degradation resistance and phase stability of Sc2O3-rich SCZ ceramics due to enhanced bond strength and reduced size misfit between Zr4+ and Sc3+.

Catalytic Hydrogen Combustion for Domestic and Safety Applications: A Critical Review of Catalyst Materials and Technologies

Alina E. Kozhukhova et al.

Summary: Spatial heating and cooking contribute significantly to global domestic energy consumption, making hydrogen combustion a potential part of the hydrogen-based energy economy. Catalytic hydrogen combustion (CHC) is considered a promising technology due to its safety and avoidance of certain harmful by-products. However, the occurrence of hotspots in CHC may lead to autoignition of hydrogen and accelerated catalyst degradation.
