Study of Cutting Power and Power Efficiency during Straight-Tooth Cylindrical Milling Process of Particle Boards

Rongrong Li et al.

Summary: The cutting power consumption of milling has a direct effect on the economic benefits of manufacturing particle boards. This study investigates the influence of milling parameters on the cutting power and finds that the rake angle, rotation speed of the main shaft, and depth of milling are the key factors affecting the cutting power.

Effects of helix angle and feed per knife on cutting forces, noise, and power consumption produced during helical planing of sugar maple wood

Paul Wellenreiter et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of conventional straight knife cutterhead and three helical knife cutterheads on planing sugar maple wood were evaluated. The results showed that helical tools performed better in terms of cutting forces, sound level, and power consumption, particularly at higher feeds per knife.

Machinability of wood fiber/polyethylene composite during orthogonal cutting

Xiaolei Guo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the machinability of wood fiber/polyethylene composite material and found that the cutting depth affects the cutting efficiency and surface quality. Shallow cutting depth results in continuous cutting governed by a continuous shearing process, while deep cutting depth leads to discontinuous cutting governed by plastic fracture.

Cutting power and surface quality in sawing kiln-dried, green, and frozen hem-fir wood

Vahid Nasir et al.

Summary: This study measured and compared the cutting power and waviness of hem-fir wood under different conditions, showing that feed speed had the most impact on cutting power, and the role of moisture content was nonlinear. The developed decision tree regression model accurately predicted cutting power but failed to accurately predict waviness, highlighting the importance of further understanding saw blade's dynamic behavior.

Cutting forces and cutting quality in the up-milling of solid wood using ceramic cutting tools

Xiaolei Guo et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the cutting performance of Al2O3 and Si3N4 ceramic tools in machining Manchurian ash and Chinese fir, showing that cutting force and surface roughness decreased with increasing cutting speed. Si3N4 ceramic cutting tools are more suitable for cutting solid wood, especially those with extractives, providing chemical stability and improving final product quality.

Cutting Forces in Peripheral Up-Milling of Particleboard

Bartosz Palubicki

Summary: The study introduces a novel method for processing high-frequency piezoelectric force signals to analyze single chip cutting force courses in industrial CNC milling. Results indicate that higher cutting speeds lead to higher cutting forces. The cutting thrust force in peripheral up-milling of particleboard is similar to that observed in solid wood milling.

Medium-density Fibreboard Milling Using Selected Technological Parameters

Grzegorz Pinkowski et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of blade type and sharpness angle on blade wear, cutting power, and surface roughness, and found that the cemented carbides cutter with the 45 degrees angle may be the optimal choice due to relatively low wear and cutting power while providing good quality of the milled surface.
