Modification of Oxidized Starch Polymer with Nanoclay for Enhanced Adhesion and Free Formaldehyde Emission of Plywood

Muhammad Adly Rahandi Lubis et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop eco-friendly wood adhesive by modifying oxidized starch with nanoclay, resulting in improved viscosities, faster curing times, and enhanced thermal stability and adhesion strength. The intercalation of nanoclay within the polymer molecules led to reduced formaldehyde emissions, making it an environmentally friendly option for plywood adhesive.

Effects of Acacia mangium bark extracts on dimensional stability, termite resistance, and fungal decay resistance of rubberwood

Wissanee Yingprasert et al.

Summary: The study showed that a higher concentration of bark extract led to higher retention and weight percent gain in vacuum-impregnated rubberwood. The color of the impregnated wood darkened as the concentration of bark extract increased, improving dimensional stability and reducing fungal decay and termite resistance. The bark extract was found to penetrate deep into the wood and had toxic effects on termites, leading to their mortality.

Granulometric Characterization of Wood Dust Emission from CNC Machining of Natural Wood and Medium Density Fiberboard

Richard Kminiak et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the particle size composition of wood dust emission from CNC milling of natural wood and MDF, and evaluate the associated occupational exposure risks. Results showed that machining natural wood and MDF resulted in different dust particle size distributions, which can be used to optimize the technological programs of CNC milling machines to reduce occupational exposure in the wood-processing industry.

Summary: The study found that Trametes versicolor had different effects on sugar-cane residue polypropylene composite and medium density fibre board, with the latter being more susceptible to degradation. The elastic modulus of the composites and hardness of MDFs were most adversely affected under fungal attack.
