Association Between Sarcopenia and Survival of Patients with Organ-Confined Renal Cell Carcinoma after Radical Nephrectomy

Jongpil Lee et al.

Summary: Preoperative sarcopenia in patients with organ-confined renal cell carcinoma undergoing radical nephrectomy is associated with poorer overall and cancer-specific survival rates, making it an independent risk factor for all-cause and cancer-specific mortality.

Combination of Albumin-Globulin Score and Sarcopenia to Predict Prognosis in Patients With Renal Cell Carcinoma Undergoing Laparoscopic Nephrectomy

Weipu Mao et al.

Summary: A novel CAS index combining albumin-globulin score and sarcopenia was developed in this study to comprehensively assess the nutritional and inflammatory status of RCC patients, showing significant prognostic value. Lower CAS values were associated with longer overall survival and cancer-specific survival in patients undergoing nephrectomy for RCC.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

ciRS-7 is a prognostic biomarker and potential gene therapy target for renal cell carcinoma

Weipu Mao et al.

Summary: ciRS-7 is highly expressed in RCC and acts as a tumor promoter by regulating the miR-139-3p/TAGLN axis and activating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway to promote RCC progression and metastasis. PBAE/si-ciRS-7 nanocomplexes can significantly inhibit RCC tumor progression and metastasis, representing a promising gene therapeutic strategy.

High Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio and Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio Are Associated With Sarcopenia Risk in Hospitalized Renal Cell Carcinoma Patients

Qiang Hu et al.

Summary: In RCC patients undergoing laparoscopic partial or radical nephrectomy, NLR and PLR were identified as biomarkers of systemic inflammation associated with increased risk of sarcopenia. The best cutoff points for predicting sarcopenia risk were NLR >2.88 and PLR >135.63, with higher levels indicating a greater risk. Adjusting for various variables, patients with NLR >2.88 and PLR >135.63 had significantly higher risks of developing sarcopenia compared to those with lower NLR or PLR levels.
