Molecular Insights into the Effects of Rootstocks on Maturation of Blood Oranges

Giuseppe Lana et al.

Summary: The choice of rootstock has significant effects on the horticultural and pathological characteristics of citrus cultivars. Studies on the effects of rootstocks on fruit quality have mainly focused on biochemical levels, but there is a need for more research at the molecular level to understand how rootstocks influence gene expression in the scion. Experiments have shown a positive correlation between regulation of fruit quality-related genes, bioactive compound accumulation, and acid degradation in different scion/rootstock combinations.
