Multi-scale approach for different type of drought in temperate climatic conditions

Ionut Minea et al.

Summary: Drought has negative effects on ecological systems, water resources, social, and economic aspects of life. Analysis of this phenomenon must be conducted at various levels, using standardized evaluation indices to understand the evolution of drought patterns.

Anomalies and trends of high river flow under temperate climatic conditions in north-eastern Romania

Ionut Minea et al.

Summary: This study used methods such as the quantile perturbation method and the partial trend method to analyze the anomalies and trends of high flow in rivers in Eastern Romania. The results showed a decreasing trend in annual high flow and different variations in seasonal high flow in different seasons.

Assessment of trends and multi-decadal changes in groundwater level in parts of the Malwa region, Punjab, India

Sashikanta Sahoo et al.

Summary: The study found that due to uneven rainfall distribution, most agricultural lands in Malwa region of Punjab, India depend on groundwater for irrigation, with a significant declining trend in GWL observed in most wells from 1997 to 2018, especially in the eastern part. This raises concerns about the future of groundwater resources in the highly groundwater-dependent Malwa region.

Graphical-statistical method to explore variability of hydrological time series

Charles Onyutha

Summary: This paper presents a graphical-statistical methodology to identify and separately analyze sub-trends in hydro-climatic data for supporting attribution of hydrological changes. The method is based on calculating the cumulative sum of differences between exceedance and non-exceedance counts of data points. An example using data from the White Nile region in Africa is provided to illustrate how the methodology can be applied.

Streamflow Variations in Monthly, Seasonal, Annual and Extreme Values Using Mann-Kendall, Spearmen's Rho and Innovative Trend Analysis

Muhammad S. Ashraf et al.

Summary: This study investigates variations in streamflow at 20 stations in the upper Indus river basin using different methods, finding that extremely low flows are increasing more significantly than extremely high flows. This may lead to constant pressure on water resources availability in the lower Indus plains where agricultural activities are dependent.

Recent trends in hydroclimate and groundwater levels in a region with seasonal frost cover

Michelle Nygren et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the climate regions of Sweden and Finland are experiencing warming and increased precipitation, with the strongest trends observed in the frost season. The global dataset underestimates median temperatures and precipitation compared to the regional datasets, and effective precipitation trends show wetting in the frost season and drying in the frost-free season. Additionally, wet day frequency trends are decreasing significantly in Finland on a regional scale, but with nearly no trends in Sweden.

Accessible Phreatic Groundwater Resources in the Central Shijiazhuang of North China Plain: Perspective From the Hydrogeochemical Constraints

Yong Xiao et al.

Summary: This research revealed that the main pollutants in phreatic groundwater are nitrogen compounds, iron, and fluoride, with nitrogen compounds posing a potential health risk to humans. The study also found that anthropogenic inputs of contaminants elevated groundwater salinity, highlighting the importance of monitoring human activities near phreatic aquifers.

Risk perception of local stakeholders on natural hazards: implications for theory and practice

Mihai Ciprian Margarint et al.

Summary: In the Iasi metropolitan area of Romania, local stakeholders lack knowledge on encouraging the population to take safety actions during natural hazard events. Risk awareness and preparedness levels are low, highlighting the need for increased understanding and actions to build resilience against negative occurrences of natural hazards.
