Out-of-field doses from radiotherapy using photon beams: A comparative study for a pediatric renal treatment

Summary: This study demonstrates that advanced radiotherapy techniques deliver higher out-of-field doses compared to conventional techniques, with differences increasing with distance to target. Tomotherapy delivers lower doses than VMAT due to additional shielding, and the Halcyon system has lower peripheral doses. Tomotherapy is suitable for out-of-field dose determination up to 30 cm, while Eclipse TPS underestimates those doses.
