PGPR-Mediated Salt Tolerance in Maize by Modulating Plant Physiology, Antioxidant Defense, Compatible Solutes Accumulation and Bio-Surfactant Producing Genes

Baber Ali et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that Enterobacter cloacae PM23 exhibits multi-stress tolerance and promotes plant growth under salinity stress. It mitigates salt stress by upregulating stress-related genes and producing beneficial substances. Inoculation with E. cloacae PM23 enhances plant adaptation to salinity stress, improving plant growth and antioxidant capacity.

Using Halothermal Time Model to Describe Barley (Hordeumvulgare L.) Seed Germination Response to Water Potential and Temperature

Abd Ullah et al.

Summary: Barley is a salt-tolerant crop with economic value in arid and semiarid areas. The study found that the optimum temperature for barley germination is 20 degrees Celsius, and germination capacity decreases with higher temperatures and lower water potentials.

Ihsan Elahi Zaheer et al.

Summary: The study found that the addition of tannery wastewater to the soil resulted in a significant decline in plant growth and biomass, as well as a reduction in antioxidant activity. However, foliar application of zinc and iron-lysine was able to mitigate chromium stress and enhance the uptake of essential micronutrients in plants.

Negative impact of long-term exposure of salinity and drought stress on native Tetraena mandavillei L.

Hasnain Alam et al.

Summary: Salinity and drought stress negatively impact T. mandavillei, affecting growth and biomass, but the plant shows resistance against drought stress. Combination of drought and salinity stress decreases photosynthetic pigments and induces oxidative damage.

Using mathematical models to evaluate germination rate and seedlings length of chickpea seed (Cicer arietinum L.) to osmotic stress at cardinal temperatures

Sikandar Shah et al.

Summary: Chickpea is an important cool season legume crop grown in arid and semi-arid regions. A lab experiment using a hydrothermal time model examined seed germination behavior and responses to fluctuating temperatures and water potentials. The study found significant effects of temperature and water potential on germination, with the hydrothermal time model effectively explaining these interactions.

Ecotypic Morphological and Physio-Biochemical Responses of Two Differentially Adapted Forage Grasses, Cenchrus ciliaris L. and Cyperus arenarius Retz. to Drought Stress

Muhammad Adeel Ghafar et al.

Summary: The results of the study indicate that under drought conditions, the weight of roots and shoots decrease significantly, with C. ciliaris from the Salt Range region showing more resistance. Conversely, C. arenarius exhibits higher metabolic production in water-limited environments. Therefore, C. ciliaris is more suitable for use as forage grass in water-scarce conditions.

Effect of seed priming on growth and performance of Vigna radiata L. under induced drought stress

Salah Uddin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of seed priming with different methods under induced drought stress on Vigna radiata plants. It was found that priming with PEG increased seedling vigor index, while thermo-priming showed non-significant effects. Induced drought stress had a significant impact on vegetative growth and physiological characteristics, with increased production of antioxidant enzymes POD and SOD under both seven and fourteen days of drought.

EFFECT OF PLANT GROWTH PROMOTING BACTERIA AND DROUGHT ON SPRING MAIZE (ZEA MAYS L.)

Muhammad Mubeen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the impact of two different PGPR species on maize under drought stress, with Pseudomonas putida showing more effectiveness in increasing chlorophyll content and total dry matter (TDM), crop growth rate (CGR), grain yield, and water use efficiency compared to Bacillus cereus. Application of PGPR in the rhizosphere and foliar spray were found to be more efficient for grain yield and WUE for TDM, with foliar spray showing the highest harvest index. It is recommended to use foliar spray of PGPR at 3-4 leaf stage for higher maize yields.
