Enhancing the permeability and antifouling properties of cellulose acetate ultrafiltration membrane by incorporation of ZnO@graphitic carbon nitride nanocomposite

Vahid Vatanpour et al.

Summary: This study focuses on modifying cellulose acetate (CA) membranes with ZnO@g-C3N4 nanocomposite to enhance antifouling and separation performance. The nanocomposite blended membrane with 0.25 wt.% ZnO@g-C3N4 showed improved pore radius, contact angle, pure water flux, and rejection rates, leading to enhanced antifouling resistance.

Luminescent film: Biofouling investigation of tetraphenylethylene blended polyethersulfone ultrafiltration membrane

Yasin Orooji et al.

Summary: In order to reduce membrane module wastage, a membrane for monitoring with fluorescent sensing was introduced to determine the right cleaning time. By using a sustainable and sensitive fluorescent indicator, membranes with identical biofouling activity compared to conventional ones were fabricated, showing potential for non-destructive and online biofouling monitoring. The use of specific materials and characterization methods allowed for the development of membranes with optimal luminescence properties.

Rapid and robust modification of PVDF ultrafiltration membranes with enhanced permselectivity, antifouling and antibacterial performance

Kai Cheng et al.

Summary: The study successfully fabricated antifouling and antibacterial PVDF ultrafiltration membranes through the co-deposition of dopamine and a newly synthesized micromolecular zwitterion, which showed high pure water flux and excellent rejection rates. The membrane maintained high flux recovery ratios even after multiple cycles of filtration.

Ball-milled Cu2S nanoparticles as an efficient additive for modification of the PVDF ultrafiltration membranes: Application to separation of protein and dyes

Atefeh Karimi et al.

Summary: This study utilized high energy planetary ball-milling technique to generate Cu2S nanoparticles from natural chalcocite, which were then embedded in PVDF ultrafiltration membranes. The addition of Cu2S increased the hydrophilicity and porosity of the membranes, leading to improved water permeation. The nanocomposite membranes with 0.2 wt% of Cu2S nanoparticles exhibited a significantly higher water flux and flux recovery ratio compared to the control PVDF membrane, while also showing high rejection rates for anionic dyes.
