Utilization of waste biomass of Poa pratensis for green synthesis of n-doped carbon dots and its application in detection of Mn2+ and Fe3+

Summary: This study utilized waste biomass to synthesize nitrogen-doped carbon dots (NCDs) through hydrothermal method, demonstrating their fluorescence properties and potential for detecting metal ions in aqueous media with good sensitivity and selectivity. The synthesized NCDs showed strong cyan-blue fluorescence upon UV-light irradiation and exhibited a linear quenching rate with the concentration of Fe3+ and Mn2+ ions. The limit of detection for Fe3+ and Mn2+ ions were calculated to be 1.4 and 1.2 μM, respectively. These findings lay the groundwork for the development of NCDs as fluorescence sensors in aqueous environments.
