Examining the association between muscle mass, muscle function, and fat indexes in an elderly population

Yuan-Ping Chao et al.

Summary: The study found that older adults in the presarcopenia group had lower fat indexes than those in the sarcopenia group. Grip strength in women and gait speed in men were negatively associated with body-fat percentage and fat-to-muscle ratio.

Malnutrition Risk, Physical Function Decline and Disability in Middle-Aged and Older Adults Followed Up in the Singapore Longitudinal Ageing Study

Shan Hai et al.

Summary: The study found that there is an association between malnutrition risk in older adults and the risk of incident disability and functional decline, particularly in non-disabled individuals. Adjusting diet, increasing protein intake and dietary diversity, reducing polypharmacy or smoking, among other unhealthy habits, may help reduce the risk of disability in older adults.
